It brings me so much joy to create these Type Maps that I would love to make something custom for you! I love to do illustration commissions and commercial projects for all bookish things like pre-order incentive merch (art cards, bookmarks, stickers), endpapers and anything that includes character portraits and book quotes. I also like to create custom personal portraits as gifts. If you’d like to get in touch about a potential project, I’d love to hear about it.

How does your process work?

When you contact me I will ask you for details about the art. I’ll need specific character or symbolic descriptions, and a list of quotes and words. If it’s a Type Map for a book I may want to read the book (or ARC) to get a good sense of what the story is about, or the publisher or author may request certain quotes or words that they would like to feature. If it’s a Portrait of a loved one I would ask for several photographs of them, plus a list of traits and likes that relate to the person. We will agree on character reference/vibe, a layout design style and color palette direction before I send along sketches for you to approve. Once you finalize the sketch I will create the final artwork with lettering and will send for finishing touches, proofreading the text and final approval. The final art will be provided in a high resolution Digital format for printing and digital sharing.

What materials do you use?

All art is created digitally using Procreate and is hand drawn and hand lettered on an iPad Pro with stylus. This allows me to easily change colors, fix words, proportions and other details until I feel it’s perfect and finished. Also, for the occasional typo I can fix it in 5 minutes!!

What if I just want the lettering?

I can create art that is just hand lettering of a quote, slogan, phrase or a grouping of words or names. The lettering also works with small symbols mixed in between. All lettering is my personal handwriting style organized together into a unique design. For examples of this style, please see my Inktober 2024 series.

Can I also get prints made from the custom artwork?

Yes, of course. I can get prints made from the digital artwork in any size you’d like. The art is usually in a square format so we can print at the standard 8” or 12” square sizes, or we can go larger or smaller. Please request prints during the project so I can include it into the fee.

Personal Gift Commissions

I’m open to doing personal Type Maps for yourself or as a gift for someone special. It could be anything from a portrait of a loved one with their personality traits and likes organized around them, or a Type Map of a favorite book, or a special customization of an existing piece of art.

Pricing

My prices vary depending on what the final product is, how it will be used and how much work is required. Pricing will be provided based on project details once you contact me. Here are a few of my typical prices:

• Book Quote Illustration or Botanical Art: $250

• Sticker Sheet or Tee Shirt Art: $250-$400

• Full Color, Fully Worded Type Map Portrait: $500

• Personal Gift Commissions: up to $500

• Endpapers or Book Covers: $1000+
